Share of domestic and international travel spending in South Africa 2019-2020
In 2020, 33 percent of travel and tourism expenditure in South Africa originated from foreign visitor spending, which amounted to 2.8 billion U.S. dollars. Domestic spending contributed 67 percent. The impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic can be undoubtedly recognized. The total travel and tourism expenditure declined from 17.9 billion U.S. dollars in 2019 to 8.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.
