Estimated investment for roadways in India FY 2020-2025, by type of road
Bharatmala pariyojna was India's biggest infrastructure investment program with an estimated investment of 113 billion U.S. dollars. Bharatmala pariyojna was designed to develop a national highway network of India, which would carry around 70 percent of the freight volume and connect more than 500 districts. At least 34,800 kilometers of road length were planned under that scheme. 52 percent of the investment requirements, valued at around 149 billion U.S. dollars, was dedicated to national highways under other schemes, state highways, major district roads, and other district roads.
