In 2018, the number of new male farmers in the agriculture industry in Japan amounted to over 42 thousand. The number of new female farmers entering the industry was much lower. One of the striking features of the Japanese agricultural situation is the shortage of farmland, with only around 20 percent of Japan's land being suitable for cultivation.
