In 2022, Japanese imports of natural cheeses were valued at around 173.7 million Japanese yen, representing the processed milk product with the highest import value. While the cheese industry in Japan produces natural cheeses as well, the domestic demand for direct consumption and processed cheese production is primarily covered by imports.
