What share of income do Germans spend on rent?

For anybody considering a potential move to Germany, it might be wise to cast a glance at the cities where rent swallows the biggest chunk of your paycheck. According to a study published on Thursday, a tenant living in the former West German capital of Bonn would have to spend 30.3 percent of his or her income on rent. The city has an average rental price of €8.74 per square meter. Neuss near Düsseldorf comes second while Cologne rounds off the top three.
