Bundesliga Beats Rival Leagues in Match Attendance

Cheap ticket prices, exceptional financial management and a core principal of putting the fan first have all combined to make the Bundesliga the best attended European football League. German football has experienced something of a renaissance in recent years – indeed Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund contested the 2012/2013 Champions League Final, with the Bavarian giants emerging victorious.

The Westfalenstadion, now renamed the Signal Iduna Park and home of Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund, has a capacity of 80,720. This stadium has the highest average attendance of any football club in Europe. Indeed, with ticket prices as low as €15, it is a shining example of what the Bundesliga is all about. The Bundesliga had an average attendance of 44,293 in the 2011/2012 season, some distance ahead of the English Premier League with 34,646.

La Liga rounds off the top three. Spain’s foremost football league drew an average attendance of 26,050 during the 2011/2012 season. Italy’s Serie A and France’s League 1 had average attendance figures of 22,005 and 18,869 respectively for the same period.
