Chinese Politicians are Insanely Rich

According to the Economist, the median net worth of all American Congressmen is $440,000, quite an amount in comparison with the country’s average household net worth of $70,000. Indeed, the disparity in wealth between ordinary Americans and Congressmen has often raised the ire of the public – the top 50 wealthiest Congressmen control $1.6 billion.

However, all of this pales in comparison with China where the 50 wealthiest members of the National People’s Congress (NPC) control an incredible $94.7 billion. Chinese politicians are insanely rich – NPC delegate Zong Qinghou has a fortune of almost $19 billion. By contrast, the wealthiest Congressman in the United States is Darrell Issa, with $355 million.
