Post-Brexit Dover border checks could cause huge queues

Currently, the average time needed to get through the customs check at Dover or the Eurotunnel is two minutes. According to calculations by Imperial College London, this can lead to queues on the A20/M20 of 9.7 miles during peak times. Under a post-Brexit situation, especially in the event of 'no deal', these times could increase significantly. As our chart shows, this could lead to queues of 19.8 miles for a 3 minute check, growing to an estimated 39.6 miles if these checks take 4 minutes.
