SPD: A party in crisis

After the SPD came third behind the Greens and CDU in the European elections, party leader Andrea Nahles announced she was stepping down. Even though the SPD has been polling at its lowest levels ever, her resignation has come as a surprise. It has also put the future of the ruling coalition into jeopardy. If the SPD quits the coalition, it could bring about the collapse of the government and prompt fresh elections. The following infographic shows just how bad the situation has become for the SPD.
