A Recovery Curve for International Visitor Spending in the US

The US Travel Association’s forecasts show that international travel spending will experience a strong recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching 141 billion U.S. dollars in 2023. International travelers to the United States overwhelmingly utilize online travel platforms to book their trips: In 2019, 46% of room nights booked on online travel platforms in the U.S. were from international travelers. International visitors’ presence on online travel platforms saw a sharp decline during the pandemic; however, with the international travel spending forecast to recover quickly, international visitors are likely to contribute again to a big share of nights booked on such platforms.
