Top Strategies to Help Japanese Hotels Reduce Impact of Seasonality

Japanese hoteliers deploy a range of strategies to boost low season bookings and a study conducted by Statista in partnership with Booking.com reveals some of the most effective approaches. Digital presence appears to be the priority, with 48% of respondents indicating that collaborating with digital travel platforms, including social media and online travel agencies, was a key method to mitigate the effects of seasonality. Flexible booking and cancellation policies in the off-season (38%), modifying staff levels (37%) and offering special rates during quieter periods (35%) were also important strategies used by Japanese accommodations to secure year-round relevance.

The 2025 Japanese Accommodation Barometer is the second study of hoteliers conducted by Statista in collaboration with Booking.com, surveying 250 accommodation executives and managers from across Japan.
