World's Most Connected Airports 2025

Istanbul airport (IST) features prominiently on the OAG megahub rankings for 2025, claiming the top spot for both total flight connections and destinations served, while European airports feature prominently across the top ten.

According to data from the survey period, Istanbul Airport leads with 82,733 connections and 327 destinations, comfortably ahead of Frankfurt (73,221 connections, 307 destinations) and Amsterdam Schiphol (66,798 connections, 275 destinations). Chicago O'Hare is the highest-ranked U.S. airport at fourth place with 65,141 connections reaching 297 destinations, while London Heathrow rounds out the top five.

Notably, Asian airports also make a strong showing in the lower half of the ranking, with Incheon (Republic of Korea), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and Tokyo Haneda (Japan) all securing top-ten positions – though Haneda, at 22,243 connections and 107 destinations, trails significantly behind the leading hubs.
