Asia Pacific Leads Global Air Travel Growth

Global air passenger traffic is projected to grow 4.9% in 2026, reaching roughly 10,100 billion Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK), according to IATA data. Asia Pacific is the single largest contributor to that expansion, with carriers in the region expected to post a 7.3% increase in traffic – well above the global average. Latin America (6.6%), the Middle East (6.1%), and Africa (6.0%) are also growing steadily, reflecting sustained demand across emerging travel markets. Europe, meanwhile, is forecast to grow at a more moderate 3.8%, while North America brings up the rear at just 1.5%. It is worth noting that Asia Pacific already accounts for roughly a third of all global passenger traffic by RPK, meaning its above-average growth rate applies to an already substantial base. While traditional aviation hubs in Europe and North America remain significant in absolute terms, the momentum in global air travel is increasingly shifting towards Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
