Mobile internet
Mobile Accounts for Nearly 60 Percent of Web Traffic
In just over a decade, mobile devices have transformed from a niche convenience to the primary gateway to the internet. Back in 2010, mobile traffic accounted for a mere 3 percent of global website visits, according to the data compiled by StatCounter. By 2017, that figure had hit 50 percent, before climbing to nearly 60 percent on average in recent years (58.5 percent in 2025).
The explosion of mobile traffic has been fueled by affordable smartphones, the expansion of mobile‑first platforms (social media, e‑commerce) and faster networks (like 5G). In many regions, particularly across parts of Asia and Africa, mobile devices often represent the primary (or only) point of access to the internet, helping bridge digital divides and opening new opportunities for communication, commerce and economic participation.
