Rugby World Cup: Second Only To Soccer

The Rugby World Cup, which is due to start in the UK later today, is the second best attended single sporting event worldwide, after the FIFA World Cup. 2.2 million people are predicted to attend games during rugby's showpiece tournament which runs until the end of October. The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil had the highest overall attendance figure of any single sporting event - 3.4 million. The Olympic games attract far more people than single sports events due to the significantly higher number of tickets on offer.
