Britons Are Very Pessimistic About The EU's Future

British Prime Minister Theresa May is set to outline her Brexit plans in a speech tomorrow. Many analysts believe she will confirm that the UK is going for a hard Brexit approach by pulling out of the EU single market and customs union. That speculation resulted in the pound falling to its lowest level for more than three months, dipping below $1.20.

In an interview over the weekend, Donald Trump praised Britain's Brexit vote, calling it "a great thing", adding that other countries could also leave the EU. Unsurprisingly, Britons are very pessimistic about the EU's future. According to a Eurobarometer poll conducted late last year, 51 percent of Britons are pessimistic about what lies ahead for the EU. Ireland comes first in terms of optimism with 77 percent of respondents positive about the EU's future.
