Number of Japanese residents in Italy 2014-2023
As of October 2023, about 11.86 thousand Japanese residents were registered in Italy, the lowest number of the past decade. The Japanese population in Italy grew gradually throughout the observed period, peaking in 2019 at close to 15 thousand residents, but has been receding slightly ever since.
The statistic, which is based on the information gathered by Japanese diplomatic missions abroad, does not include descendants of Japanese emigrants (nikkeijin) who do not hold Japanese citizenship. People with multiple citizenship are counted.
