Impact of coronavirus on growth of services and manufacturing in Kenya 2020
The growth performance of services and manufacturing in Kenya was estimated to be critically impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In 2019, the services sector had a strong performance, whose growth was measured at 2.7 percent. In 2020, the growth was expected to drop to 0.6 percent. Retail and wholesale, transportation, accommodation, and restaurants have been strongly affected by public health measures to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country. Also agriculture and industry sectors will slowdown as an effect from the pandemic. The real GDP growth in Kenya is estimated at 1.5 percent, a huge fall from 5.4 percent measured in 2019.
