Value of loss caused by disposal of non-performing loans by banks in Japan 2014-2023
From April 2022 to March 2023, the value of loss caused by the disposal of non-performing loans (NPLs) by banks in Japan amounted to 0.5 trillion Japanese yen. This represented a decline from 1.2 trillion yen in the previous year. Japan experienced a period of high non-performing loan ratios as a result of the financial crisis caused by the burst of the economic bubble in the 1990s.
