In a survey conducted in the United States, shoppers were asked which reasons led them to start DIY projects at home between March 2020 to June 2021 due to COVID-19. For the majority of respondents, the main motivation was having more time at home. This consumer reason peaked in March 2020 at 90 percent, and remained on a high level until decreasing in June 2021 to 79 percent. The second popular reason was wanting to complete projects for health and safety reasons, with as high as 50 percent of respondents citing this reason in April 2021.
