ESG integration was the most common method for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing among fund selectors worldwide in 2021. ESG integration means systematically including ESG issues in the investment decision. The share who used this method increased steadily during the period, from 18 percent in 2019 up to 54 percent in 2021. The previous year, in 2020, exclusionary screening was the most common method, but it dropped in adoption in 2021.
