Trump Re-Election Support Same as for Obama in 2010

It's not at all surprising to see that a low share of U.S. voters think President Trump shouldn't be re-elected. Indeed, a new survey by Gallup shows that only 37 percent would say he deserves a new term. What is surprising though, is that back at the same stage in his presidency, Obama had an equally low rating - and we all know how that turned out.

In 2002, President Bush, perhaps benefitting from a galvanized nation in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, had a starkly different 60 percent of the nation behind him for a second term. Before him, Clinton was looking at similar levels of support to Trump and Obama, with 38 percent feeling he deserved more time in the White House. All of the previous three presidents, of course, won re-election.
