Learning the digital way in Japan

Japan is responsible for several important innovations within the global technology industry and in recent years, the country’s tech fondness has increasingly spread to the educational sector. Teaching and learning services are changing towards more flexible, easy to access and cost friendly options that fit the needs of a perpetually busy society. Classes, which prior to the digital era were restricted to lectures, talks and physical objects, no longer have to be designed in that manner. Teachers and students are now provided with a digital toolbox to choose from – ranging from engaging teaching devices to online courses and digital textbooks. Digital education is the term used to refer to all online educational practices.

According to a survey conducted by the Yano Research Institute, the Japanese e-learning market is forecast to surpass 207 billion Japanese yen by the end of 2018, of which over 64 billion yen are expected to be generated through B2B online learning services. The study suggests a continuous growth of the general e-learning market for the future, predicting an increasing appearance of AI (artificial intelligence) based courses within Japanese digital education services.
