May suffers biggest Commons defeat in UK history

Theresa May's Brexit deal has been comprehensively rejected by MPs, resulting in the biggest defeat for any UK government in the modern parliamentary era. Defeats involving 100-plus votes are rare in British politics and members of the House of Commons threw her plan out by 432 votes to 202.

That's the biggest margin of defeat since 1924 when Ramsay MacDonald's minority Labour government suffered losses by margins of 166, 161 and 140, according to the BBC. Jim Callaghan also suffered a resounding defeat in 1979, losing by 89 votes.
