Speed limits reduce CO2 emissions

Are the days of Germany's famous unrestricted speed limits on its autobahn network numbered? Recently, proposals from a government-appointed committee to impose a 130 kph speed limit on the network were leaked to the media. Safety is one aspect of the debate but greenhouse gases are another. According to data from the Federal Environmental Agency, imposing a speed limit of 120kmh would result in a notable decline in emissions, as the following infographic shows.
