2020 Presidential Election

Democrats Say 'The 50s' is the Best U.S. President Age

Democrats largely say the best age for a U.S. president is someone in their 50s, but some of the top 2020 presidential hopefuls are much older—including current U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to Pew Research Center, 47 percent of Democrats polled said “the 50s” was the best age range for president. Only 3 percent of Democrats said a president “in their 70s” was ideal. At 6 percent, “in their 30s” was the best age.

Interestingly, the three Democratic frontrunners are in their 70s: Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is 78; former Vice President Joe Biden is 77 and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren is 70 years old. Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who officially entered the race November 24, is 77 years old.

Trump exceeded Ronald Reagan and became the oldest person to take on the presidency when he was sworn into office at 70 years old. He’s now 73 years old.
