The U.S. States With the Most New COVID-19 Deaths

According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 28,000 people have died from COVID-19 in the United States in the past 28 days. As of September 3, 2021, Florida suffered the most losses at 4,900 or 17 percent of deaths.

Texas recorded 4,166 deaths over the time period, followed by Louisiana and California with around 1,500 COVID-19 deaths.

Compared with the population in the states, Louisiana and Mississippi were hit hardest with more than 30 deaths per 100,000 people in the past month. In Florida, that number stood at almost 23, higher than for Texas (14.3), Georgia (11.6) and California (3.8).
