Greensill scandal failing to grab public attention

While all attention in Westminster is currently on the Greensill Capital lobbying scandal, a survey by YouGov reveals that the story has failed to grab the attention of the British public so far. Despite three separate committees of MPs saying they would launch inquiries, and an independent inquiry ordered by the government, only 24 percent of respondents said they were following the issue fairly or very closely as of 14 April.

Despite being described as "the most serious crisis over political ethics for years", the complexity and depth of the scandal appears to have deterred the public from delving too far into the subject at this stage. A status quo which the Conservatives will surely be very keen on maintaining given the extent to which some of its members, including former PM David Cameron and current chancellor Rishi Sunak, are connected in it.
