FIFA World Cup

Tor! Goal! Golazo!

When the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar on Sunday, the usual suspects will once again be among the favorites to win the most coveted trophy in world football. While 2018 champion France is looking to become the first nation to successfully defend the title since Brazil managed to do so in 1962, Neymar’s Brazil is looking to win a record sixth world cup title and its first since 2002.

Argentina is also high among the bookmakers’ favorites, as Lionel Messi desperately wants to crown his career with the one major trophy that eluded him so far. After its group stage exit in 2018, 2014 champion Germany is seeking redemption, while England hopes to carry the momentum it built in the 2020 Euros into another major tournament.

And while the title is the thing that ultimately counts, goals are the secret ingredient that makes the FIFA World Cup the most followed sporting event in the world. Our latest Racing Bars video recounts world cup history by showing which nations scored the most goals at football’s biggest occasion since 1930.
