Amidst a pandemic, international tourism recovery slowest in Asia Pacific region

After international travel hit rock bottom in 2020, the following year provided the tourism industry with some much-needed hope for recovery. 2021 marked a cautious return to travel for almost every region in the world, however, the Asia Pacific remained an exception by continuing the downward trend in tourist arrivals. This was driven by strict travel policies in the region which lingered in Australia, New Zealand, China, and Japan while the rest of the world loosened their policies around travel.
