Majority of Americans Opposed Recent U.S. Military Action Against Iran
As tensions between the United States and Iran remain high in late 2025, a look back at public opinion in the immediate aftermath of the June U.S. military strikes reveals a nation deeply divided. A CNN poll conducted on June 22-23, 2025 (before Iran's retaliation and Trump's ceasefire announcement), found that a majority (56 percent) of Americans disapproved of President Trump's decision to launch the strikes. The poll exposed a stark partisan contrast: 82 percent of Republicans backed the action, while 60 percent of independents and 88 percent of Democrats opposed it. However, a significant portion of the Republican electorate was disapproving of the strikes (almost one in five).
