Where Are Online Grocery Delivery Services Popular?
According to recent Statista projections, the revenue of the online grocery delivery market is expected to reach $1.06 trillion this year, with an annual growth rate of above 9 percent in the coming years. This would mean the revenue of this specific market has more than tripled since 2020. While online grocery delivery services have definitely become more popular and widespread in recent years, their adoption is far from being universal.
Data from a recent Statista Consumer Insights survey shows that the popularity of online grocery shopping varies widely between countries. Out of 32 countries included in the survey, respondents in India were among the most likely to have shopped for groceries online in the previous year (second only to the United Arab Emirates, not included in our infographic, where 64 percent of respondents had used an online grocery delivery service in the same time frame). A majority of South Koreans had also used such services, while their adoption was very low in Japan (13 percent of respondents only).
In China, online grocery shopping was only favored by around a quarter (26 percent) of respondents, slightly more than in Germany (23 percent) and France (21 percent). In the United States, where the revenue of the online grocery delivery market is expected to reach close to $364 billion this year, around four in ten (38 percent) of respondents said they had shopped for groceries online recently.
