A Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away

From oldies like Star Trek or Star Wars to recent releases like Dune or The Mandalorian – science fiction remains a staple of the entertainment industry. In the U.S., it's one third of viewers, comparable to numbers in South Africa, Germany and Australia.

The data also shows that male Americans favor science fiction to a larger degree, with 40 percent of male respondents saying they watched the genre compared to 28 percent of women. When it comes to generations, Baby Boomers and members of Gen X are the biggest fans at 39 percent of each generations watching the genre opposite 36 percent of Millennials and 26 percent of Gen Z. While science fiction has stayed popular throughout generations, the youngest American adults have not developed as big a taste for it yet.
