Tourism Enjoys Strong Local Support in Europe

For local residents, tourism can be a complicated topic. For some it can be a source of frustration and interfearence in their everyday life, but according to MMGY's 2026 Resident Sentiment Index Survey the vast majority have a positive relationship with tourists and tourism in their community. The survey of European residents found that 81% would like to welcome as many or more international visitors in the future. The same share said they feel proud when tourists travel from afar to visit where they live. Support also extends to how destinations present themselves: 78% said their destination should continue to be promoted to attract visitors, while 74% enjoy giving tourists advice and tips, and nearly three in four (73%) see tourism as a driver of diversity in their community.
