A history of Turkish coups

There has been a huge amount of column inches written on the attempted coup in Turkey over the weekend. The infographic below takes a look at all coups and coup attempts in Turkey since 1960 and sheds light on the larger global context of each decade.

Infographic amended 27 July 2016. Original version stated incorrectly that Adnan Menderes and Süleyman Demirel were President at the time of the coups. They were in fact prime minister.
