Burqa Ban

Strong support for a burqa ban in the UK

Last week, Angela Merkel called for a burqa ban in Germany, saying it should be banned where legally possible. Since France became the first country to introduce laws banning full-face veils, support has grown across Europe. Belgium and Bulgaria introduced similar legislation in the years since. According to an August YouGov poll, support for a burqa ban is also strong in the UK. 57 percent of people in the UK support a law banning the burqa with older people most likely to be in favour of it.
