Methodology

America’s Best-in-State Employers have been identified based on an independent survey from a vast sample of more than 80,000 U.S.-employees working for companies employing at least 500 people in their U.S.-operations.

The survey was conducted using an online access panel, providing a representative sample of around 80,000 employees working part- or full-time for companies or institutions with more than 500 employees in their respective U.S. state. Throughout the survey phase, measures were taken to ensure a suitable geographic distribution of participants.

Employees were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family, as well as how they feel about the other employers in their respective industries. Furthermore, the employees were asked 35 questions about work related topics concerning their current employer: Employees were asked to give their opinions on a series of statements surrounding work-related topics of e.g. working conditions, salary, potential for development and company image.

In order to be considered, a company must employ at least 500 employees in the respective state. Employers with operations in more than one state can be ranked in multiple states. The number of employers awarded in each state differs based on the amount of relevant employers and size of the states’ workforce. In total 2,500 employers have been awarded.
