Peter Edge, the acting deputy director of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, resigned last week after 31 years in law enforcement. This change in leadership comes after the retirement of Thomas Homan, former acting ICE Director.
Despite the many changing hands of the ICE leadership, the Assistant Secretary for ICE has gone unfilled since the beginning of Trump’s tenure. The Department of Homeland Security-- under which ICE is an arm of-- remains understaffed in senior leadership positions. The agency has been a contentious topic, enthralled in scandal over separating immigrant children from their parents at the border. Some people are now calling for the agency to be abolished.
