Emissions reduction pathway in Canada 2005-2035, by scenario
Between 2005 and 2021, Canada's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions fell by roughly 13 percent. The North American country is aiming to reduce its GHG emissions by 40 to 45 percent below 2005 levels by 2030. This would see GHG emissions fall to at least 440 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Under the "additional measures" scenario, Canada's GHG emissions would fall by roughly 36 percent by 2030, relative to 2005 levels. This would leave a gap of some 27 MtCO₂e to be on track with its pathway to net zero by 2050.
