Required DAC+S emissions removal to reach global net-zero 2020-2050
In order to reach the net-zero emissions target by 2050, it was forecast that direct air capture and storage (DAC+S) technology will need to remove 71 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2030. That figure should increase to 633 MtCO₂e in 2050, so that global net-zero can be achieved. As of 2022, the capacity of DAC plants in operation worldwide was still in the range of thousands tons.
