In 2021, a majority of all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Brazil came from agricultural activities and land use. Approximately 55 percent of all emissions were carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, followed by 20 percent methane (CH4) emissions, both stemming from agricultural sector. Although CO2 emissions from agriculture have had a slow decrease since 2001, CH4 emissions and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from the same source have remained at around the same percentage.
