Mobile app downloads – additional information
With the number of mobile app downloads expected to grow in the future, app stores will also be expected to meet the demand for the number, quality and range of apps that their customers need. As of July 2014, the number of apps available in the leading app stores was recorded for comparison. As of that month, customers could pick from Google Play’s 1.3 million available apps, a figure which made it the world’s leading app store. Apple’s App Store was ranked second with slightly fewer, yet still impressive, 1.2 million apps.
The success of an app’s appeal can be analyzed by its reach. The mobile audience reach of leading U.S. smartphone apps was measured in November 2014. The resulting ranking included YouTube, Google Play, Pandora Radio and Google Maps. However, Facebook was ranked first with a 69 percent reach among the mobile audience in the U.S. Twitter, on the other hand which is considered to be another dominate force in the social media industry, only had a 21.3 percent reach of the mobile audience.
The number of available apps and the number of people downloading may have an effect on app download rates. The average mobile app download rate per 100 users was calculated in selected countries worldwide in the second quarter of 2014. It was discovered that on average worldwide, 1.23 apps were downloaded per 100 users. India and the United Kingdom were lower than the worldwide average and the U.S. was only slightly higher at a rate of 1.25 apps downloaded per 100 users. The countries with the most impressive app rate were found in Asia. Malaysia topped the ranking with the highest app rate of 4.64 app downloads.
