Insulation of housing stock in England 2008-2022
All measures of improving the energy efficiency of dwellings saw an increase over the period. The most common measure throughout these years was full double glazing, increasing from 70.8 percent of houses in 2008 to 87.7 percent of houses having full double glazing in 2022. Use of cavity or solid wall insulation also increased during this time period, reaching a share of 52.1 percent of dwellings in 2022. Finally, loft insulation usage saw the largest increase, having risen from 21.1 percent of dwellings in 2008 to 38.8 percent of dwellings in 2022. There were around 24 million houses in England in 2023.
