Income of state museums in Italy 1996-2022
In 2022, the income of state museums in Italy bounced back, following a sharp decline with the onset of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. After dropping to 24.5 million euros in the first year of the health crisis, these institutions' income reached 92.6 million euros in 2022, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. While the total number of visitors to state museums and similar cultural institutions in Italy, including monuments, museum complexes, and archaeological sites, also rose significantly in 2022, it remained below the figure from 2019.
