The numbers behind recent U.S. gun massacres

The United States is still reeling from its latest mass shooting after 17 people were left dead at a high school in Florida. U.S President Donald Trump held a listening session at the White House with survivors of the shooting and he said he's considering proposals to arm some teachers with guns as a deterrent.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a not for profit corporation founded in 2013, the number of Americans killed by guns between 2014 and 2017 stands at 56,755 while the number who lost their lives in 2017 alone is 16,590. Between 2014 and 2017, 2,710 children under the age of 12 have been killed by guns while there have been 1,333 mass shootings.
