When billionaires splurge their money, luxury cars and private jets are some of the ultimate status symbols. However, nothing quite screams bling like a massive superyacht docking in the world's most exclusive marinas. The global hot spot for the super rich and their yachts is without doubt the Mediterranean. Every year, billionaires flock to sun-soacked marinas in Croatia, Italy, Spain, France and other countries, where it gets so busy that finding a docking space can prove a nightmare.

A list compiled by Motoryachting and published by Drivemag Boats has revealed the most expensive marinas for superyacht owners with the Mediterranean certainly the place to be if you're loaded with cash. The island of Capri off the coast of Naples in Italy has become a pricey playground for the super rich in recent years. Despite that, its marina is quite small with only ten berths. As a result, its prices are the highest in the world at $3,369 every say. Another Italian marina, this time the Marina Di Porto Cervo in Sardinia, is the second priciest mooring spot at $2,904 a day. The small and popular Marina Di Portofino near the city of Genoa is the third-most expensive at $2,730 a day, rounding off the all-Italian top three.

Interestingly, the best known marinas for yacht owners like Monaco and Saint-Tropez are much further down the list with their daily prices less than half Capri's. Both of those marinas still need deep pockets though with daily prices over the $1,000 mark. What about other marinas away from the Mediterranean? The research found that that Miami Beach Marina costs about $1,000 for every day spent there while Port De Gustavia in Saint Barthélemy in the Caribbean costs $581 per day. The price-list shows that purchasing an expensive yacht is one thing but paying the costs to operate it and dock in exclusive marinas is certainly quite another.
