Food Insecurity

Study Finds a High Share of Americans Face Food Insecurity

America’s economy is booming, with low unemployment and a strong stock market. Despite all signs pointing towards a strong economy, many Americans are food insecure. Policymakers are looking to further cut social safety net programs, with a push to end or reduce the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and the SNAP program for food stamps even with many still struggling.

The Urban Institute recently released a new survey of nearly 7,600 adults that found the various ways Americans are not meeting their basic needs when it comes to paying for food, health care, housing, or utilities. These results were benchmarked against other longer terms studies that surveyed similar topic areas and found similar results.
