Which U.S. State Is the Biggest Exporter?

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau USA Trade platform, Texas is the biggest exporter among U.S. states. Texas biggest export commodity were oil and petroleum products, which made up almost one third of Texan exports in 2020. Other goods shipped abroad from the Lone Star State were computer parts, aircraft parts and integrated circuits. Cotton still made up approximately one percent of Texan exports.

All in all, Texas exported almost 16 percent of its economic output in 2020. California was the second-strongest exporter in the U.S. but did not come close to Texas’ US$279 billion dollars worth of exports. At US$156 billion, California exported aircraft parts as well as integrated circuits and semi-conductor machinery. Diamonds and almonds also showed up on the list of the biggest export goods from California.

Because of the coronavirus, exports from U.S. states were slightly suppressed across the board compared to 2019.

A surprising entry on the list of the biggest exporters among U.S. states is Louisiana in spots four. The state's economic production includes many products commonly exported, like petroleum products, corn and soy.
