Economic Clout of Women-Owned Firms on the Rise in the U.S.

Since 1997, the number of businesses owned by women in the United States has increased by an impressive 59 percent. Back then, there were 5.4 million female-owned firms with revenue figures of $819 billion. In 2013, the number of companies owned by women in the United States increased to 8.6 million. Revenue also rose substantially in the same year, hitting $1.34 trillion.
