Analysis: Meghan Gets More Negative Media Coverage

Earlier this month, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan announced they would be stepping back as working members of the Royal Family and working to become financially independent. Under an agreement announced on Saturday, the couple are set to split their time between the UK and Canada, also paying back £2.4 million of taxpayer money used to renovate their home.

Harry's desire to protect his wife and son from tabloid harassment is thought to be the primary reason behind the couple's decision and a new Guardian analysis backs arguments that Meghan has been the target of critical media coverage. Between May 2018 and January 2019, Meghan got more than twice as many negative headlines as positive ones.

Out of 843 articles in 14 print newspapers during the above period, 43 percent were negative, 20 percent were positive and 36 percent remained neutral. A similar search for headlines about Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, found that 45 percent were positive, 47 percent were neutral and just 8 percent were negative.
